Booths for The Senedd in Cardiff

Find out how CSM helped expand the booths in The Senedd to allow for more seating in the Welsh Parliament building.

Background

The opportunity to work on The Senedd came through a recommendation from a previous client, reflecting the strength of our long-standing relationships and reputation for delivering high-quality work. Having originally contributed to the building during its construction in 1999, we were thrilled to return to this incredible location.

We were brought in to increase the seating capacity within the debating chamber, following the growth of members in the Welsh Parliament.

Challenge

Creating the new booths within The Senedd presented a unique challenge. They had to match the existing seating, requiring a high level of precision that left no margin for inconsistency.

Achieving this was particularly complex due to the nature of the building itself. The walls and floor weren’t completely flat, meaning that standard fabrication and installation methods could not guarantee a seamless finish. The plaster, glass, and stainless steel finishes all needed to be cohesive and aesthetically seamless, which is tricky as the building wasn’t perfectly round.

Solution

This type of intricate, detail-driven work is where our expertise comes to the forefront. Using a combination of steel and aluminium, we carefully replicated the original booth structures, scaling them to meet the new requirements while preserving the exact look and feel.

Our team worked meticulously to overcome the inconsistencies within the building’s geometry. Through a combination of skilled craftsmanship, precise fabrication and adaptive problem-solving, we ensured that each component integrated seamlessly with the existing environment, despite the underlying structural challenges.

Results

The results to date have been extremely positive, with the extended seating areas blending naturally into the original design of the chamber. The new installations maintain the architectural integrity of The Senedd while supporting its evolving functional requirements.

As an ongoing project, the focus remains on achieving a flawless finish across every detail. We are proud to be contributing once again to such a significant and nationally important building, demonstrating our ability to deliver complex, high-precision work in prestigious and technically demanding environments.
