Learn how CSM supported the refurbishment of apartments in Cardiff Bay with specialist curved metalwork.
We were asked by Willmac to support the refurbishment of the Scott Harbour apartments in Cardiff Bay, following a client recommendation based on our curved fascia work at the Riverside Cantonese restaurant four years earlier.
The project involved the refurbishment of an existing building, which was fully gutted and refitted. The aim was to enhance and modernise the building while working with its existing structure, rather than replacing it entirely.
Our role was to manufacture and install bespoke curved aluminium elements to the corner of the building, directly opposite the Welsh Assembly.

The key challenge of this project was the complex curved geometry required for the aluminium fascias and soffits. Each corner section featured multiple radiuses, in some cases three to four curves within a single section, which needed to flow seamlessly as one, rather than appearing as segmented bends.
This type of work is often avoided by other fabricators due to its complexity, but it’s truly where our talent lies. The team’s experience and problem-solving approach, specialist equipment (rolling machines and section formers owned in-house) and deep knowledge of curved aluminium fabrication allowed them to accurately form, align and install the components so the curves matched perfectly and maintained visual continuity around the building’s corners.
The completed installation significantly enhanced the architectural presence of the refurbished building. We delivered smooth, continuous curved aluminium soffits and fascias as well as the balustrade, showcasing our capability to execute high-complexity radius work that many competitors are unable to achieve.
